ABOUT DR. ZHENG

Dr. Yinggang Zheng is a board certified physician fellowship trained in cutting edge of pain management and minimally invasive spine procedures. After completed his residency training in Physical Medicne and Rehabilitation at New York Medical College, he completed one year fellowship training of interventional spine and minimally invasive spine procedure at renowned Desert Institute for Spine Care in Phoenix, Arizona with internationally well known spine surgeon Dr. Anthony T. Yeung. Dr. Yeung is considered internationally as the pioneer of endoscopic laser spine surgery and developed Yeung Endoscopic Spine System (YESS) which has been world-widely used to treat low back pain including lumbar disc herniation, stenosis and facet arthropathy. After completed his fellowship Dr. Zheng practiced as an attending physician at Desert Institute for Spine Care and has done many cases of spinal injection and endoscopic spinal procedures.


Dr. Zheng has extensive background in spine care. He is a graduate of the Medical College of Qingdao University in China, with a Master’s Degree in Orthopedics from the same institution. He completed a Surgery Internship, Orthopedic Residency and Spine Surgery Fellowship training with The Affiliated Hospital of Medical College, Qingdao University. He practiced as an attending orthopedic spine surgeon for 15 years before retrained as an American physician in New York. Dr. Zheng is fortunate having studied and worked with three internationally renowned orthopedic spine surgeons: Professor Hansen A. Yuan, M.D., Past President of North American Spine Society, and International Society for Advancement of Spine Surgery, Professor Edward H. Simmons, M.D., Founder and Past President of Cervical Spine Research Society, Past President of Scoliosis Research Society at State University of New York, and Dr. Anthony T. Yeung, Past President of International Intradiscal Therapy and Transforaminal Spine Society. Dr. Zheng has authored many peer reviewed articles in SPINE journal and other journals, presentations at national and international meetings, as well as more than 10 book chapters in the field of spine surgery and interventional spine care.


Dr. Zheng bridges the gap between traditional spinal pain management and traditional open spine surgery. With the cutting edge of spine techniques and updated spine care knowledge, Dr. Zheng delivers an uniquely advanced, entirely contemporary, multimodal approach to pain relief. He spent quality time to listen to the patients concerns and to get detailed history, complete physical examination with necessary diagnostic studies, so he can offer individualized treatment plan with conservative treatment, spinal injection or radiofrequency ablation. Furthermore, after carefully selecting patients, give patient the option of minimally invasive spinal procedures including endoscopic discectomy, foraminotomy and facet rhizotomy. He will explain to the patients the causes of back pain, options for treatment and helps patients to make decisions. Dr. Zheng is one among a few physicians with one year endoscopic surgery fellowship training and got hospital privilege to do endoscopic spine procedures.


Dr. Zheng cares about his patients. Combing the eastern and western cultures and philosophies together, he has an appealing bedside manner that instills comfort and confidence in his treatment plans and follow-through. His treatment regimens are short and minimally invasive so that minimizing side effects while maximizing improving the outcome, and the results speak for themselves. Dr. Zheng finds no greater joy than seeing his patient’s getting rid of pain and returning to their normal life and activity. To help more patient, Dr Zheng also practice in New York state, too.


Continuously pursuing new innovative cutting edge techniques in spine care with high success, Dr. Zheng participated in clinical research for endoscopic surgery and interventional procedures. He has been the faculty for multiple national and international workshops for endoscopic discectomy and facet rhizotomy as well as other minimally invasive spine procedures.

A Member of North American Spine Society, and International Society for Advancement of Spine Surgery, Diplomate of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, a Fellow with the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and a life long member of International Intradiscal Therapy and Transforaminal Surgery Society, Dr. Zheng is also a member of Review Board for the International Journal of Spine Surgery.
